Fire Fighters Wanted  
  If you are a motivated individual, physically fit, and 19 years of age or older you may have a future as a part-time firefighter. Eligible applicants will be required to complete recruit training starting in January through March for 12 weeks - Wednesday evenings and Saturdays.  
  Who are Paid-on-Call Firefighters?  
  Paid-on-Call Firefighters are your neighbours, your co-workers and your friends. They are men and women in all walks of life that live close to you and respond whenever paged to deal with the emergencies in our community. They are people of all ages, races and backgrounds. They are people who choose to give more than they take from their community. All fire halls are staffed by paid-on-call-firefighters.  
  Minimum Qualifications  
 
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License - Class 5
  • A Drivers Abstract is required with a demonstrated safe driving record (less than 6 penalty points is preferred).
  • Criminal Record Check Applicants are required to have an RCMP criminal record search completed during recruit training.
  • Minimum Education - Grade 10
 
  Minimum Requirements  
 
  • Complete the Recruit Training Program;
  • Successfully complete one year probation;
  • Permanent resident of the City of Chilliwack;
  • Physically fit;
  • Pass a medical examination;
  • No phobias (height or confined spaces);
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English;
  • Ability to respond to incidents day and night all year;
  • Normal vision and hearing;
  • Regularly available for Monday night training; and
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
 
  Preferred Qualifications  
 
  • First Aid Certification;
  • CPR Certification;
  • Trades Certification (ie. electrical, construction, plumbing, mechanic);
  • Class 3 Driver's License;
  • Air Brake Endorsement;
  • Grade 12 Education;
  • Firefighter experience and training; and
  • Post Secondary Education.
 
  Preferred Requirements  
 
  • Live close proximity to the fire hall;
  • Permanently employed in area;
  • Previous firefighter experience;
  • Day-time response capabilities; and
  • Volunteer experience with other organizations.
 
  Restrictions  
 
  • Firefighters are not permitted to grow facial hair, except moustache (Per WCB Regulation);
  • Inability to work in confined spaces; and
  • Inability to work on heights.

Paid-on-Call (POC) firefighters are paid an hourly wage when called to respond to emergencies and to attend weekly practice sessions. If interested, please contact the Fire Department and submit your name at 604-792-8713 or in person at 45950 Cheam Avenue.
